What the numbers mean

-2: A minor system should move through, almost no winds. Snow accumulations of 1-2 inches. No ice accumulations expected

-5: A more stronger system, some mild winds could be strong at times, minor ice accumulations, and around 3-7" of snow accumulations expected

-8: A pretty strong system, strong winds possible, pretty heavy ice accumulations could happen, pretty bad weather related travel delays, snow accumulations of 8-15"

-10: Very strong system. (This is reserved for potentially a devastating storm that could last more than 3 days) Strong winds are likely, Very heavy ice accumulations could happen. Very bad weather related travel delays likely! Snow accumulations of 16"+
